Wilson on the double to send Romans top
Red-hot Scott Wilson netted another two goals this afternoon against Havant & Waterlooville to fire City to a fourth successive victory and a place at the top of the Vanarama National League South table.
The opening goal arrived after just 10 minutes. Wilson firing home after Kieran Parselle’s header from a corner was brilliantly saved by Worner and Jordan Dyer’s follow-up hit the foot of the post. The Hawks enjoyed the majority of possession after this but City stood firm, restricting them to no more than a few half-chances. Both sides went close in first half-half stoppage time, Cody Cooke looping a header from a Ewan Clark cross narrowly over and a low cross flashing across City’s six-yard box just out of Faal’s reach.
An early chance for Wilson after the interval saw Worgan turn his shot away for a corner but on the hour mark the visitors gifted City a second goal. Willson’s attempted back-pass was intercepted by his near-namesake to sidestep the stranded Worgan and walk the ball into the net. This self-inflicted blow seemed to drain the life out of Havant. Faal headed a good chance over with 15 minutes left but City were now much more in control of the game and they comfortably saw out the remaining time.
