Wiles-Richard & Wanjau-Smith double win

A faultless performance from keeper Harvey Wiles-Richards and a sublime piece of skill by Sol Wanjau-Smith saw City beat Hampton & Richmond Borough by a single goal at Twerton Park this afternoon.

An early corner caused City problems, Borough failing to take advantage, before Wiles-Richards brilliantly kept out Wall’s 10th minute shot, although the striker should have done better with the follow-up, shooting wide with the goal at his mercy. Nine minutes later the same visiting player was sent clear but Wiles-Richards kept out his shot with an even better save. A low shot just wide of the post by Ewan Clark and a dangerous cross from the returning Danny Greenslade had tested the visitors but the opening goal on 29 minutes came out of nothing. A cross field ball looked to be heading out of play but Wanjau-Smith did superbly to bring it down right on the touchline. He burst into the box where he was wiped out by Wiltshire’s challenge and the referee pointed to the spot. Scott Wilson making no mistake from 12 yards.

Clark’s close range header was well saved by keeper Curd two minutes after the restart before Wiles-Richards was again called into action, diverting Williams’ well-struck effort behind. A series of corners followed with Gray’s shot clipping the outside of the post from the final one. Latrell Humphrey-Ewers flashed a shot narrowly wide just before the hour mark before Wiles-Richards comfortably gathered Keeya’s 30-yard effort. Borough continued to search for an equaliser but with Wiles-Richards confidently dealing with a series of crosses they were struggling to fashion any further clear chances. A couple of shots flew wide of the goal, the final one a minute from time, and City saw out the six minutes stoppage time without further alarm.
