Slimbridge win ends 14 year wait for FA Youth Cup 1st Round proper place
In a very even encounter, City came out victors against Slimbridge in the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Youth Cup at Twerton Park last night. City took control from the start but failed to make their possession pay and with Slimbridge getting stronger as the half progressed it remained 0-0 at half time. Slimbridge started the second half but well but on a break City took the lead on 47 minutes when a Slimbridge defender could only help the ball over the line in attempting to clear a cross from the right. On 58 minutes City made it 2-0 when Ben Whitson collected a pass and shot across the keeper into the bottom left hand corner of the net. The match continued end to end and Harvey Wiles-Richards was called into action on several occasions before Scott O’Brien fired home from distance on 75 minutes to secure the tie and take City into the 1st round proper for the first time since 2005.
