Second half goal deluge seals derby win
Second half goals from Jordan Thomas, Scott Wilson and Danny Greenslade fired City to a 3-0 win over Taunton Town at a wet Twerton Park this evening.
With the sides coming into the game occupying second and third place there was little to choose between them in a competitive first half. The closest the visitors came saw a 34th minute effort by ex-Roman Ross Stearn strike the post before two minutes later Wilson was only denied by a great block by Grimes after keeper Lavercombe has spilled a Thomas shot.
As the weather worsened it was the home side who began to up their game and on 57 minutes they broke the deadlock. Thomas cut in from the right flank and curled a perfect shot beyond Lavercombe into the corner of the net. It took a great double block from Evans to deny Tom Smith in the 69th minute. Three minutes later the Peacocks thought they had equalised when a free-kick from the left touchline found the net but an offside flag for slightest of touches by Sims-Burgess halted their celebrations. And City took full advantage of this escape six minutes later when Lavercombe failed to hold Thomas’ free-kick and Wilson headed home from a couple of yards out. Before the celebrations had died down City made the game safe as Greenslade unleashed a stunning shot from the edge of the box into the top corner.
