Sardo stars in penalty shoot out win
City progressed to the 2nd Round of the Somerset Premier Cup at Twerton Park this evening thanks to a penalty shoot-out win over Larkhall Athletic, after the tie finished 2-2 after 90 minutes.
City had enjoyed the better of a low-key first half, with the best opening falling to Kieran Parselle on 19 minutes, but he failed to get his header on target from six yards out. With the game looking set to reach the interval goalless Jordan Alves drifted in from the right flank before unleashing a low show that former City keeper Forster could only divert into the net.
The second half saw the visitors begin to impose themselves on the game and they deservedly levelled with six minutes left when Yao bundled the ball home from close range. The game was only level for a minute as Latrell Humphrey-Ewers drilled a low shot into the corner of the net from the edge of the box. The Larks would not be denied though, Graham firing a stoppage time shot into the roof of the net, and the game went to penalties.
Graham netted the first spot-kick with Nick Grimes replying for City. Pritchard then dragged his effort wide allowing Humphrey-Ewers to give City the advantage. Dymond-Hall and Elliott Frear were both successful but Yao then saw his kick brilliantly saved by Massimo Sardo. And Sol Wanjau-Smith stepped up to coolly slot home his penalty and secure the win for the Romans.
