Romans impress in Exeter City draw
City produced another impressive pre-season effort this afternoon in a goalless draw against Exeter City at Twerton Park. They more than matched the League 1 side for long periods which bodes well for the upcoming Vanarama National League South season, now just three weeks away. After a quiet start to the game it was City who almost struck first when Ben Morgan’s 10th minute header was blocked on the line. The Grecians began to enjoy more of the ball as the half progressed but failed to trouble City’s well-marshalled backline, with Ollie Wright’s only real action to gather a low cross ahead of former City loanee Sonny Cox on 25 minutes. Seven minutes into the second half Wright produced a great stop, turning Cole’s swerving free-kick over the bar. Despite promising approach work from both sides after this neither could fashion any clear cut chances, although a stoppage time corner from Chris Lines was met well by Joe Raynes but he couldn’t get his header on target.
