City enjoy Rovers Return to Twerton Park
Two Alex Fletcher goals and a Cody Cooke penalty fired City to a very impressive pre-season win over Bristol Rovers at Twerton Park this evening. The League 1 newcomers struck first on 12 minutes when Collins’ cross was deflected into the path of Loft who drilled a low shot into the net. However, City levelled on the half hour mark was a great cross from Elliott Frear was lifted past Belshaw by Fletcher. And nine minutes later Fletcher latched onto to a ball over the top, holding off a defender before lashing a shot into the roof of the net. Keeper Joe Wright then produced two great stops from Collins and Gibbons to preserve City lead at the interval. Within seven minutes of the restart it got even better for the Romans when Cooke was adjudged to been pushed in the box and he stepped to net from the penalty spot. Rovers pushed City back after this but couldn’t find a way back into the game and a deflected Tom Smith shot was inches away from adding to the scoring with 15 minutes left. That was as close as either side would come in the closing stages to see City complete their opening trio of home friendlies on a high note.
