Red-hot Alves rescues point again for City

Jordan Alves rescued a point for City against mid-table Chesham United at Twerton Park this afternoon. He struck on 69 minutes to cancel out Oliyide’s 55th minute goal and ensure the points would be shared.

Although the visitors looked to time-waste from the very start they spurned two great chances to score in an otherwise low-key first half. On ten minutes a deep cross was turned back across goal where an unmarked Esan blazed the ball over from six yards out. The Generals tactics were summed up shortly afterwards when keeper Addai collected the ball but, instead of releasing it quickly to a open forward, he deliberately fell to the floor, much to the annoyance of several teammates. On 35 minutes Stevens did well in the box but saw his rising shot crash against the bar, with a follow-up header tamely directed straight at Harvey Wiles-Richards. City had produced little as an attacking force so would have been happy to reach the break level.

However, within ten minutes of the restart Chesham took the lead as Esan set up substitute Oliyide to side-foot home with his first touch. On 63 minutes City threw on Ewan Clark, Alex Fisher and Mitch Beardmore in an attempt to lift their performance and six minutes later they were level. Alves bravely reached Jordan Tillson’s ball over the top ahead of Addai to lift it toward goal and, despite the efforts of the keeper, it found the net. Neither side could fashion a clear-cut opening after this and had to settle for a point apiece.
