Paulton Rovers Ladies (1) Bath City Women 1st – Sunday 15 September 2024 – Regen Arable South West Regional WFL Division 1 North – Winterfield Road

Match Report by Mark Stillman.

Bath City Women collected their first win of the campaign at Paulton Rovers on Sunday.

Maddy Brown was involved in all three goals for City, converting the winner early in the second half to clinch success.

Jenna Woodland netted for each team in an exciting encounter at Winterfield Road.

Tara Taylor also made it three in two games for Matt Abreu’s team in a deserved victory.

The opener arrived on nine minutes. Brown’s free-kick from the left saw Woodland inadvertently help the ball past Emily Jones from close range when under pressure from Ashley Harris.

Woodland made amends soon after. A good move concluded with Jess Abbott’s hanging cross bravely nodded in from Woodland almost on the goal line.

After Brown had prodded inches wide of the advancing Jones, her hold up play and lay-off was perfect for Taylor, who slid home from 10 yards to make it 2-1.

The Romans missed chances to extend their lead with Harris and Brown going close just after the interval, and it cost them on 53 minutes when Alisha Stuart expertly looped over Sadie Farley from 16 yards, leaving the keeper helpless.

City responded sharply and retook the lead when goalkeeper Jones’ mishit clearance was eventually collected by Lily Simmons, who squared for Brown to find room before confidently converting at Jones’ near post.

Farley was called upon on 70 minutes to keep out Millie Light after Abbott found her in room, forcing the keeper into an excellent save to her left.

It proved key as City saw the game out to return to form ahead of hosting the same opposition next week at Twerton Park.
