Parselle stunner sets City on way to win
A stunning strike from Kieran Parselle and Scott Wilson double saw City beat Weymouth 3-0 at the Bob Lucas Stadium this evening. The hosts started the game brightly but once the skipper struck midway through the first half it set the Romans toward a comfortable victory.
The Terras came into the game rooted to the foot of the National League South table, but on the back of a 5-1 win in their last home game they shaded the early exchanges. However, it was City who broke the deadlock on 22 minutes when Parselle collected the ball from Jordan Alves before curling a stunning 20-yard shot past ex-City keeper Buse. Moments later, from almost the exact same position, Luke Russe looked to have repeated the trick but his shot crashed against the bar, Mitch Beardmore sliding the rebound just wide. City were in control of the game now and they deservedly doubled their lead on 38 minutes when Wilson latched onto a ball over the top and lifted it over Buse.
If Weymouth harboured any hopes of turning the game around in the second half they were dashed in the 58th minute when Wilson made room in the box to fire a shot across Buse into the net. Five minutes later Clark’s well-struck shot forced a great save from Buse as City pushed for a fourth goal. This would be as close as they’d come to adding to the scoring, content to see the game out, including an extended stoppage time after a serious looking injury to Weymouth forward Ibrahim.
