Next Match – Welling United (H)
Bath City open their National League South home campaign against Welling United this weekend.
A resurgent second half of the season from the Wings saw them pull away from a relegation battle. Rod Stringer’s arrival coincided with a fine run of form (two defeats in their final 18 league games) and gives them hope that this season will be a smoother ride.
An opening day 1-0 win over Aveley, who reached the play-offs last year, aids that suggestion. Ten players made their debut at Park View Road including Dan Martin, who spent a brief spell at Twerton Park in 2020.
Supporters of the Wings are used to such a turnover of personnel. No-one in the squad has surpassed 38 appearances and Stringer will be the seventh different opposition manager Jerry Gill has faced in 11 meetings against Welling.
The long-serving City boss oversaw a 1-0 loss at Boreham Wood on Saturday. With five first teamers unavailable heading into the game, a serious injury to Zac Smith added to the Romans’ woes, who fought gainly in adversity.
Saturday is Bath City’s 600th match in National League South, excluding play-offs, and the 21st meeting between Bath City and Welling United in the division.
Overall record v Welling United (all comps): Pld 53 W22 D12 L19 F75 A61.

Quirks:
- In Welling’s last eight games at Twerton Park, they’ve had a different manager. Rod Stringer will make it nine in this fixture.
- Last December was City’s biggest win over Welling United since a 5-1 win at Park View Road in January 1995. Jerry Gill played in that game.

Bath City produced a pre-Christmas treat against a struggling Welling United side who suffered their biggest ever defeat at Twerton Park. With twice former PDC World Champion Gary Anderson in attendance, City checked out of their home in 2023 with a resounding win, scoring twice in each half against the hapless Wings. Scott Wilson and Jordan Thomas recorded their first league goals since 7 November, with Dan Hayfield and Cody Cooke chipping in after the break. The recalled Elliott Frear had a hand in the first three as the Wings couldn’t get to grips with the attacking menace shown from Jerry Gill’s side.
