Next Match – Torquay United (H)
The first midweek game of the season is expected to be a humdinger as Bath City host Torquay United this Tuesday night.
Torquay recovered from a goal down to beat Enfield Town on day one, Paul Wotton’s first game in charge, before losing 1-0 at Farnborough at the weekend.
Their away form has been a thorn in their side since relegation back to this level last year. They’ve only won two games on the road in 2024, their victories at Truro (in Gloucester) and Taunton in April are their only away from home in the last 15.
The Gulls brought in 15 players in the summer. Three of those will be instantly familiar to Bath City fans. Cody Cooke, Jordan Dyer and Dan Hayfield all left the Romans for the Gulls in the summer after a combined 361 appearances and 77 goals. All three have started both of their opening two matches, Hayfield and Dyer were booked on Saturday. It’s near certain that Torquay’s squad on Tuesday night will contain no players from the April contest highlighted below.
Bath City got their home campaign off to a winning start at the weekend with Scott Wilson’s goal enough to see off Welling United. Wilson scored a winner against Torquay for Macclesfield Town in September 2017. If he features on Tuesday it will be his 99th league appearance for the club. Nick Grimes could make his debut, his suspension which carried into this season concluded on Saturday. Jerry Gill confirmed on Saturday that Luke Russe, Elliott Frear and Dan Greenslade are nearing a return.
Tuesday is the fifth meeting between Bath City and Torquay United in National League South.

Quirks:
- The last draw between the clubs was in January 1975, a 2-2 in the Western Counties League at Plainmoor. The competition ran alongside each sides’ main campaigns.
- The January 2019 attendance of 3,492 is the highest for Bath City in a National League South match.
Last meeting:
13 April 2024 – National League South
Bath City 1 (Frear 10) Torquay United 0
Line-ups:
Bath City: Buse; Dyer, Batten, Parselle, Greenslade; Yeboah (Clark 61), Hayfield, Smith, Frear; Cooke, Wilson. Subs not used: Raynes, Idehen, Vassell, Alabi.
Torquay United: Halstead; Jude-Boyd, Hall, Tomlinson, Moxey; Lapslie, McGavin (Booth 82); Stobbs, Jenkins-Davies, Archer; Ash. Subs not used: Lovett, Thomas, Wellington.
Referee: Neil Pratt
Star man: Elliott Frear
Attendance: 2,772
Elliott Frear’s first home goal for nearly two-and-a-half-years clinched a thoroughly deserved win for Bath City to effectively seal their play-off spot. Results elsewhere means only an eight-goal defeat at Aveley on Saturday will cost the Romans a place in the top seven. A 21st clean sheet of the season aided Jerry Gill’s team, who were seldom threatened by a poor Torquay United outfit. Their fears of a second successive relegation remain intact whereas barring a major collapse, City can look forward to a midweek away play-off Eliminator after the regular season’s conclusion.
