Next Match – Tiverton Town (A)
City continue their pre-season campaign tomorrow evening with a trip to Devon to face Southern League Premier South side Tiverton Town at the Ian Moorcroft Stadium.
The home side have lost all three of their pre-season outings so far against Exeter City (0-1), Willand Rovers (1-2) and, City’s new Vanarama National League South rivals, Yeovil Town (2-4), so will no doubt be keen to register a positive result ahead the start of the 2023/24 season.
It will be City’s first visit to Ladymead since the 2006/07 season. The sides met a remarkable five times that campaign, with two FA Cup clashes – City winning 3-1 in the replay after a goalless draw at Twerton Park – and a League Cup game won by Tivvy, in addition to the two league meetings. The game also ended goalless as City suffered a small blip on their eventually successful path to the Southern League title.
Two familiar faces will be on the bench for Tiverton in their management team of Martyn and Scott Rogers. Scott spent over three years at Twerton Park between 2006 and 2009, playing in the aforementioned game, whilst Martyn played nearly 250 games for City during the 1970s. Meaning both have lifted a Southern League title for the Romans!
Tiverton are very generously donating part of the gate receipts to Alex Fletcher as he continues his recovery from last season’s head injury. He joined City from the Devon club in January 2021 and will be presented with a signed shirt from both sides just before kick-off. Fletch will also be in the Function Suite for an Open Q&A session before the match.
