Next Match – Maidstone United (H)

Bath City return to league action this Tuesday evening, when Maidstone United will be our guests at Twerton Park.

Like City, United were knocked out of the FA Trophy on Saturday, losing 2-1 at Horsham of the Isthmian League. But though they have also been knocked out of the Kent Senior Cup and the FA Cup in the past few weeks, the Stones have not lost a league match since early September, a run of eight games from which they have taken 16 points. This has seen them rise to 13th in the table, after a poor start to the season in which they took just six points from their first seven games. City, in contrast, have slipped to 20th, having failed to win any of their last six league matches, from which they have taken just two points.

Last season’s head-to-head between the two sides makes for more comfortable reading. In August 2023, in the first home game of last season, the Romans won 3-0 thanks to two first-half goals from Jordan Thomas and a late third from Tom Smith. In the return, played in March, the Romans took a point home from the Gallagher Stadium after a 2-2 draw. Goals from Cody Cooke and Elliott Frear twice gave City the lead but both were pegged back by the hosts.

Tuesday’s visitors will be without attacking midfielder Jon Benton. He was recalled from his loan deal to parent club Solihull Moors last week prior to a permanent transfer to Boreham Wood.

Though recent results have not gone the way of the Romans, home attendances are still up to an average of 1,386 this season. The team will need your continued unwavering support for what will be a hard-fought match on a cold but probably dry evening under the floodlights.

Bring your hat, bring your scarf, and come to Twerton Park this Tuesday!
