Nailsea win sees City into Junior Cup Final
City reached the final of the Somerset FA Junior Cup with a 3-0 win over Nailsea United this afternoon. Playing down the considerable slope City spent the majority of the first half camped in their opponents territory and should have taken the lead on 13 minutes when Ashley Harris was tripped in the box. However, Koz Thorner-Atkinson fired the penalty high and wide. She then saw a 30th minute header hit the bar but the pressure finally told on 41 minutes. Nailsea failed to deal with a corner allowing Adella Clarke to divert the ball home from close range. City continued to control the game after the interval, although they had an escape early in the half when Nailsea’s no.8 reached a through ball ahead of Sadie Farley but sent her shot narrowly wide. The hosts were reduced to ten players in the 79th minute when their no.10 received a straight red after clashing with Ashley Harris. Three minutes later City gave themselves breathing space when Erin Duffy fired home from 20 yards. And they secured their place in the final on 86 minutes when Poppy Spratt broke clear to confidently slot the ball into the net.
The final with take place at Brislington FC on Thursday 1 May against Weston Super Mare.
