Lucky 13 for Wilson secures FA Trophy win
Scott Wilson’s 13th goal off the season on the stroke of half-time was enough to see City overcome Beaconsfield Town this afternoon at Twerton Park in the 2nd Round of the FA Trophy.
The tone of the game was set early on as City enjoyed the majority of possession but found the visitors a resolute opponent. Wilson saw an early header well saved by keeper Rowley whilst several dangerous crosses into the box failed to find a City player. On 26 minutes the Rams came close to grabbing a surprise lead when the ball dropped to Morrison in the six-yard box but Will Buse did brilliantly to block his shot. Just as it looked like the game would reach the break goalless Luke Russe’s low cross found Wilson and he turned neatly before beating Rowley from eight yards out.
Into the second half City pressed for a second goal but Beaconsfield continued to defend well. Several times Jordan Thomas fashioned a shooting chance but failed to trouble Rowley. Joe Raynes finally tested the keeper with a low shot on 77 minutes as Beaconsfield began to commit more men forward with the tie still in the balance. City kept their concentration at the back though and Thomas almost doubled the lead in the final minute, Rowley diverting his shot away for a corner. In the end, City saw out the remaining time with no scares to go into Monday’s 3rd Round draw.
