Late goals send City to home defeat
Two goals in the final ten minutes sent City to defeat against Worthing at Twerton Park this evening.
City enjoyed the better of the first half, although it was the visitors who came closest to scoring when Faal’s 32nd minute shot struck the post. City’s best chance saw Scott Wilson’s snapshot well saved by Haig on 28 minutes.
The opening exchanges of the second half saw City continue to look the more threatening side as Sol Wanjau-Smith diverted Joe Raynes cross narrowly over the bar, then Raynes himself tested Haig with a well-struck shot. As the half progressed though the visitors began to finally impose themselves on the game. It took a great double save on 67 minutes by Harvey Wiles-Richards to keep out Faal’s initial shot then block Willard’s follow-up effort. However, he was powerless on 80 minutes to prevent Cook opening the scoring from close range as Cashman’s free-kick found him unmarked at the back post. And Worthing secured points in stoppage time when Harrison Smith struck from six yards out.
