Late Bellotti free-kick earns Frome win
Mils Bellotti’s 90th minute free-kick earned Bath City Women a dramatic 3-2 success over Frome Town this afternoon. The centre-back expertly curled in just a minute after Frome appeared to have earned a point from a two goal deficit in an eventful game at a windy Badgers Hill.
With the conditions in their favour, City took a 5th minute lead when Laura Didymus was robbed from a short goal kick, allowing Libby Goater to square to Lily Simmons, who easily stroked home from 12 yards. Goater had a penalty superbly saved by Sophie Billet in a dominant opening by the Romans, but they didn’t double their lead until just after half-time. Chelsea Giles and Ashley Harris combined to set Goater away, the forward poked past the onrushing Billet from 18 yards, watching the ball trickle past Karen Perkins on the line. Frome responded immediately when Perkins glanced Keira-Leigh Underhill’s searching free-kick in, but City looked the likelier to net next with Hari Sabic tremendously denied by Billet. It looked like this save would prove vital when following a succession of corners, Underhill’s delivery was met by a looping header of Alice Starr, who directed above Tara Taylor on the line. With the game about to enter added time, Simmons won a free-kick on the left and Bellotti bent the ball brilliantly into the top corner to seal three points.
