Jerry’s thoughts ahead of Slough game
Last Saturday here saw us put in a very impressive performance against a very physical Braintree side, with us playing some wonderful football in collecting the deserved three points. We feel we have the squad that can now cope with the physical challenges of the league whilst ensuring we put our own stamp on each game in the way we want to move the football and eventually drain the opposition in energy levels.
Saturdays game was exactly that, we never ever panicked after going in at the break one nil down. The team were performing very well, and we also know the group have bounce-backability. It was a matter of everyone including you the supporters of remaining patient as we all knew the openings would come.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first but our ball speed and intensity lifted and they just couldn’t cope with the amount of running and defending that had to do.
Set pieces is something we have been putting a lot of time and effort into. We all know that corners and free kicks can win you vital games and points over the course of a season. When you have the quality of deliveries from the likes of Linesy and Els its then making sure we get our timings and areas covered in the box.
It was pleasing to see Alex get off the mark with a well timed near post area header to bring us back on terms. We then hit them quickly again after a great run from Cody and execution lifting it over the goalkeeper following a wonderful long pass from KP.
Our third goal again came from a driving forward run from Alex to win the penalty and Cody does what he does with his routine slotting the penalty away nicely.
The fitness levels of the entire squad are really pleasing us, this group enjoy training and off the back of a really good pre- season get stronger and stronger each week. They enjoy being challenged and are very good at self-management and problem solving which makes our jobs as staff so much easier.
We know we have to approach every game with the same attitude and determination. We go out to win every game infront of us. I am confident this group gives us their all, we won’t always play as well as we would like but we will always look like a Bath City team in our values and identity.
Please get behind the lads this afternoon. Thanks for all your continued support.
Enjoy the game
