Ilminster Town Ladies Reserves (0) 2 Bath City Women (2) 2 – Sunday 12 March 2023 – Somerset County WFL Division 1 – Archie Gooch Pavillion
Match Report by Mark Stillman.
Bath City Women surrendered a 2-0 lead and had a player dismissed as they had to settle for a draw at Ilminster Town Ladies Reserves. Amy Key’s delightful lob over the stranded Amelie Evans gave City an 18th minute lead and they doubled it in first half added time when Evans let a harmless long ball slip through her grasp, allowing Key to nudge home from close range. The second half was an eventful affair with Ilminster halving the deficit on 54 minutes. Sian Chapman’s ball over through was raced onto by Jodi Cornwall and the midfielder finished well, slamming past Sophie Campbell at her near post. Ashanti Golding and Esme Fensome had quickfire chances to extend the lead but Matt Abreu’s side were made to pay on 78 minutes. Georgia Mann’s header from Chapman’s corner was looping in before Summer-Lily Robinson handled on the line and was sent off. The offence was clear but the main arguments centred around the ball already being over the line. Cornwall blasted home the spot-kick and despite being down to 10 City still had chances through Tanea Wright and Key. Kayla Winter half-volleyed Ilminster’s best opening over as a pulsating contest finished all-square.
