Former academy player Ben Saunders passes away
Bath City FC are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ben Saunders, a promising Bath City FC academy player and football lover who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in October 2019. The thoughts of all those connected with Bath City FC are with Ben’s family and friends at this awfully sad time.
Billy Clark of Bath City FC Academy said “ Ben started playing for the Bath City under 18s in the season 2018/19. In that season he played in every league and cup match. Ben had great character as a player, tenacious and hungry to be the best he could be. He worked hard and listened, the kind of player that any coach would want to work with. Behind a tough exterior there was a kind and sensitive lad that loved football, playing the game was a pleasure for him. He would always turn up with a smile on his face wherever we played, supported by his father Tom. Ben left a positive mark on all that met and played alongside him and I know that the squad of players that played with Ben in that Bath City youth team will be sad to hear that he has lost his battle with this cruel illness. Ben was a wonderful young man that has been sadly taken far too soon. My thoughts and prayers go out to Tom and all of his family and friends. Rest in peace Ben, you will be missed greatly.”
