Dev Team star in 6-goal Twerton Park thriller
City Women’s Development side took centre-stage this afternoon in an entertaining 3-3 draw against high-flying Pen Mill Ladies. With the first team’s game at Stockwood Rangers postponed due to a waterlogged pitch they provided an excellent performance in their first Twerton Park appearance of the season.
Pen Mill came into the meeting having scored 31 goals in their opening six league games and when Pitman’s 12th minute shot beat Poppy Yates it looked like it could be a difficult afternoon for the Romans. However, they responded superbly and Hari Sabic blasted them level seven minutes later. And they went into the break ahead thanks to Anna Wilson’s neat finish in first-half stoppage time. And it got even better midway through the second half when Erin Watkins showed great strength to hold off a defender and composure to slot the ball home. The Yeovil-based visitors weren’t done though and struck twice in quick succession in the closing ten minutes to level the score. City pushed for a winner that their performance deserved but had to settle for a point in the end.
