Cooke treble fires City to another big win
City made it back to back wins to begin their pre-season campaign with a 4-1 victory over Frome Town at Badgers Hill this evening. After Alex Fletcher’s treble at Larkhall Athletic on Satuday, this evening it was Cody Cooke who netted a hat-trick with impressive left-back Jordan Williams completing the scoring. Cooke’s opener came on 13 minutes when he pounced from close range after Robin’s keeper Carey had done well to keep out Tom Smith’s initial effort. City keeper Will Fuller twice denied the home side with smart blocks before, five minutes from the interval, a great run by Fletcher saw him pull the ball back for Cooke to fire into the roof of the net from 12 yards. Fuller was called into further action as Frome began the second half brightly but on 63 minutes Williams ran onto Tom Smith’s pass to shoot across Carey into the net. Twelve minutes later Cooke latched onto a pass forward to round Carey and slot the ball home from a narrow angle, the ball just crossing the line before Tom Smith got a final touch. The Robins grabbed a deserved consolation goal 13 minutes from time when former City Academy player Lenihan converted from O’Loughlin’s cross.
