City suffer night to forget in Slough loss
City suffered a third successive league defeat this evening, going down 3-0 against Slough Town at Arbour Park. Although the final scoreline somewhat flattered the home side, City could have few complaints about the result as, once again, they struggled to create clear chances over the 90 minutes. After an even opening half an hour player-manager Davies’ 20-yard free kick found the net to give the Rebels the lead – a goal he celebrated with a shushing gesture directed at the City bench. The second half began with little in the way of threat from either side but on 67 minutes a driving run from Chambers-Parillon saw him set up Gilbert to make it 2-0. And five minutes later a corner saw Harvey Wiles-Richards appear to divert the ball into his own net, although Beeden took the congratulations for the goal. It wasn’t until the 88th minute that City managed an on target effort – Horlock blocking Joe Raynes’ shot – before Kieran Parselle fired a stoppage time chance over the bar, but the game was long gone by then.
