City play out goalless draw with Robins

A third successive pre-season clean-sheet saw City play out a goalless draw with a young Bristol City side at a warm and sunny Twerton Park this afternoon.

Early chances for Latrell Humphrey-Ewers, Joe Raynes and triallist Alex Fisher failed to test former Roman Josey Casa-Grande in the visitors goal, as City began the game brightly. It was the Robins though who spurned the best chance of the first half on 22 minutes when Thomas broke clear but pulled his shot wide of the far post. Both sides continued to produce neat build-up play without creating any clear-cut openings until Fisher shot wide in the closing moments of the half.

The game continued in a similar fashion after the break with neither side able to gain the upper hand. The lively Thomas spurned another chance in the 63rd minute when he touched the ball past Harvey Wiles-Richards but failed to get his shot on target. The final quarter of the game saw City get on top as Scott Wilson directed a 76th minute header narrowly over then only great defensive work denying Sol Wanjau-Smith. Five minutes from time a huge goalmouth scramble on the Bristol City box failed to fall to a City player for a clean strike on goal and when, a couple of minutes later, Casa-Grande saved well from Ewan Clark’s shot, it ensured the game would end in a stalemate.
