City Cooke up an Angel delight
An early Cody Cooke goal was enough to see City past Tonbridge Angels this afternoon and maintain their perfect start to the 2021/22 season. He broke clear of the home defence with just eight minutes on the clock and confidently slide the ball past keeper Henly. Having shipped four goals in the first half last week the Angels could have feared the worst but they responded well and enjoyed the majority of possession, with the experienced Modeste looking threatening down their right. However, City once again looked solid at the back and the only chance of note before half time once again fell to Cooke, with a shot straight at Henly. The pattern of the game changed little in the second half but for all their pressure Ryan Clarke was rarely tested, and as the half proceeded Callum Wood, 15 years his junior, began to get the better of Modeste to blunt their threat even further. In the end, only a stoppage time free-kick from the edge of the box, which flew harmlessly over the bar, gave the Romans a nervous moment and shortly afterwards they could enjoy a second hard fought victory.
