City and Rebels share TV spotlight and points
Despite leading twice City had to settle for a share of the points against play-off rivals Worthing at the Sussex Transport Community Stadium this afternoon in front of the live TNT Sports cameras.
The home side had struck the bar on 17 minutes from a Pearce free-kick after debutant Duncan Idehen was harshly penalised for a great tackle on the edge of the box. However, after 30 minutes City took the lead when Scott Wilson swept the ball home from close range after Idehen initial header had been saved by Rees. Worthing levelled seven minutes later after neat build-up play ended with Cashman placing a shot into the corner of the net.
The home side enjoyed the majority of possession in the second half but City took advantage of their weakness defending set-pieces to regain the lead in the 57th minute through a thumping Jordan Dyer header. Again though they were pegged back as Cashman struck his and Worthing’s second with 11 minutes left. Buoyed by this Worthing pressed for a winner but City stood up well to the pressure and nearly grabbed a late winner when Jack Bates almost marked his debut with a goal, seeing a dipping volley just clear the bar.
