Bath City Women (3) 5 Stockwood Wanderers Women (0) 0 – Sunday 16 February 2025 – Somerset Junior Cup Quarter Final – Twerton Park
Match Report by Mark Stillman.
Five-star Bath City stormed to the semi-finals of the Somerset Junior Cup.
Goals from Adella Clarke (2), Poppy Spratt, Tara Taylor and Koz Thorner-Atkinson saw them ease past Stockwood Wanderers at Twerton Park.
The Romans flew out of the blocks. On nine minutes, the ball ran loose to Clarke inside the penalty area and she comfortably planted it into the bottom right corner with Ava Vowles standstill.
Clarke added her and City’s second just 82 seconds later.
Maddy Brown’s cross from the left was fumbled by Vowles straight to Clarke, who took a touch before nudging home from close range.
Spratt collected her first for the club on 19 minutes. Erin Duffy’s cross ricocheted off Jemima Seagrove to the waiting midfielder, who lashed home from 12 yards to give Vowles no chance.
Libby Goater fired just wide and Duffy’s drive flew narrowly over before Clarke had two chances to complete her hat-trick, wastefully miscuing off target after Brown’s effort had been spilled before Vowles tipped her shot onto the outside of the post in the closing stages of the half.
It took until midway through the second half for City to extend their already healthy advantage.
Brown intercepted Izzy Strawford’s pass out the back, darted past Charley Friend and pulled back to Taylor, who created space in the box before hammering into the roof of the net from 10 yards.
Clarke was unfortunate to see her effort from Duffy’s ball forward somehow bounce over the bar, but should have tucked in from Goater’s probing run and cross from the right.
Matt Abreu’s team made it five when substitute Thorner-Atkinson was allowed to run unchallenged into the penalty area and she comfortably arrowed past Vowles.
Stockwood threatened a consolation with Lola Bassett hitting the side-netting late on following a neat interchange with Seagrove, but they otherwise had little answer to a powerful home display, City’s biggest win of the campaign to date.
