Bath City Women 1st (2) 4 Corsham Town Women (1) 2 – Sunday 6 October 2024 – Regen Arable South West Regional WFL Division 1 North – Twerton Park
Match Report by Mark Stillman.
A brace from Adella Clarke helped Bath City Women collect their first home win of the season.
The former Paulton striker netted her first two for the club in a morale-boosting success against a tricky Corsham Town side.
Gabby Menghini’s double for the visitors wasn’t enough in an entertaining contest at a wet Twerton Park.
Substitutes Erin Duffy and Erin Watkins were also on target for the Romans, making it nine goals scored in two games.
After an uneventful start, Corsham broke the deadlock on 15 minutes when Menghini’s free-kick from 25 yards caught out Sadie Farley, who scrambled two her right in vain.
City were level inside a minute. Ash Harris’ persistence saw her fend off the home defence before playing back to Clarke, who side-footed in past two players on the line.
Clarke helped Maddy Brown’s free-kick over before another set-piece led to City’s second.
Debutant Anna Wilson was felled and Duffy’s strike from 30 yards flew into the roof off the net past a sprawling Nia Davies.
Two fine saves from the visiting stopper around the hour mark kept her side in the game, denying Harris and Wilson, batting the latter’s effort onto the bar.
Town levelled when Menghini’s exquisite close control preceded a delicate lob over the helpless Farley.
City retook the lead on 69 minutes. Duffy found space down the left and her teasing centre saw Davies and defender Stacey Hyde hesitate, allowing Clarke to poke home from close range.
The victory was assured with 10 minutes remaining when Duffy’s corner was helped on by Brown to Watkins, who composed herself at the far post before firing home.
The win moves Matt Abreu’s side up to fourth ahead of a fortnight’s break from action.
