Bath City Women (0) 1 Paulton Rovers Ladies Reserves (0) 0 – Sunday 25 September 2022 – Somerset County WFL Division 1 – Twerton Park
Match Report by Mark Stillman.
Emily Bristow’s superb finish earned Bath City Women their first win in the Somerset County Women’s League.
The winger’s arrowing second half strike from 15 yards gave Emily Quinn no chance.
Defensively City were excellent with debutant keeper Sophie Campbell rarely troubled, marking the side’s Twerton Park bow with their first clean sheet.
The Romans nearly made the perfect start when Paige Owen’s corner was inadvertently flicked on to Chelsea Giles, but her hooked attempt clattered the crossbar.
Paulton’s Jasmine Ford saw a low drive well tipped around by Campbell as Nathan Ford’s team recovered from a slow start.
Bristow latched on to Harleigh Curtis’ long ball over the top but Quinn deflected her shot behind with an outstretched leg.
City started the second half well with Giles heading Owen’s free-kick wide.
On 67 minutes Bristow’s sweet strike across goal failed to trouble Quinn but she made no mistake with her next go.
After Tara Taylor’s surging run and cross was only half cleared, Bristow picked her spot and superbly drilled the ball into the far corner.
Visiting captain Molly Haskins cleared from the line when Koren Jones nudged a long ball over the top away from Quinn before City’s only real scare of the second half saw Darcy Baber’s free-kick float just over.
Bristow could have had a second when she robbed defender Ella Garrett but shot harmlessly wide.
It didn’t matter in the end as the players celebrated their first three points in style with a 200-strong crowd.
