Away Trip to Billericay Town
The Romans conclude their regular league campaign on Saturday in Essex where they take on play-off chasing Billericay Town in the Vanarama National League South! Kick off – 3pm at the AGP Arena!
Easter Monday saw Jerry Gill’s men achieve their goal of finishing in the play-offs – with a game to spare! City ran out one nil winners against a resilient Oxford City side thanks to Tom Smith’s strike on the hour mark and a heroic performance from goalkeeper Ryan Clarke. The former Oxford United custodian earned his twentieth clean sheet of the season (in all competitions) and kept his side in the game on numerous occasions. Although the Romans have sealed their place in the play-offs, Jerry Gill and his players won’t be resting on their laurels as a win at Billericay on Saturday would secure an all-important home tie in the quarter final stages.
City took on big spending Billericay Town back in December and produced a Jekyll and Hyde performance at a chilly Twerton Park. Ross Stearn put City ahead in the ninth minute but it was soon cancelled out by a neat finish from Moses Emmanuel. This only spurred the Romans on and they produced a scintillating display with Billericay struggling to contain them for the rest of the half. The tempo faltered in the second period though and City were punished for not putting the game to bed when Sam Deering’s forty yard cross bypassed everyone, bounced awkwardly in front of Clarke and nestled into the far corner. City searched for a leveller in the final twenty minutes but couldn’t find a way past the experienced Alan Julian.
Billericay must win on Saturday to secure a spot in the play-offs and Jerry Gill’s Romans will be looking to spoil the party as they look to gain home advantage on Wednesday 1st May! Can City snatch all three points in Essex? Why not hit the road and get behind the boys in what will be an exciting final regular season fixture!
