Away days to Chippenham and Weston super Mare
City are on the road again on Saturday when we make our shortest trip of the season, just 15 miles along the A4 to Chippenham Town. It’ll be our first visit to Hardenhuish Park for nearly eleven years, but back in the early 2000’s we were more regular visitors, picking up ten points from five matches. City fans have some fond memories of those matches, including Dean Birkby’s last minute winner in 2002 and the John Williams’ inspired fightback three years later. And of course we have a score to settle after the Bluebirds’ fine performance at Twerton Park back in August – the score is already forgotten!

The return fixture with Boxing Day’s opponents is just six days later on New Year’s Day when we travel to Woodspring Stadium to face Weston super Mare. Although our first visit to the seaside town was over 100 years ago, as with many clubs in this division we have only played the Seagulls in league matches during the present century. However, City supporters have enjoyed five victories in those nine visits, the most recent coming back in March with a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Axel Andresson and Shawn McCoulsky.
It is unlikely that much will be open in the town on a bank holiday, but there’s always a bracing walk along the promenade before the match! And the late postponement of last season’s fixture saw City supporters playing a match against their friends from Lecco on the beach! The nearest pub is about ten minutes walk away at the Walnut Tree while there is a good sized clubhouse at the ground.
