Amy’s the Key to beating league leaders
A stoppage goal from Amy Key secured Bath City Women their first victory of the season against Royal Wootton Bassett Town Ladies at a warm and sunny Twerton Park this afternoon. The visitors came into the game top of the South West Regional WFL Eastern Division but were stunned when Abby Gray headed City in front from a corner on 10 minutes. Royal Wootton Bassett had scored a remarkable 36 goals in their opening five league and cup games this season but, despite enjoying more possession as the half progressed, rarely troubled Sadie Farley in the City goal. This pattern continued after the interval but with 10 minutes left Jefferies’ free-kick from midway in the City half caught out Farley who could only push the ball into the roof of the net. The Wiltshire side no doubt sensed victory after this but City manager Matt Abreu threw forwards Key and Emily Dellow back into the fray and this move paid dividends a minute into stoppage time when Ashley Harris sent Key clear to lift the ball past Powell into the net via the post.
