Five reasons to have an away day at Bath City this December

If you’re like us and dreading the thought of traipsing through overcrowded shops this December to find nowhere has that vital last present left in stock that you just have to get for Gran, then consider this.

Why not combine a trip to Bath’s vast array of shops with a visit to the annual and highly acclaimed Bath Christmas market and a National League South match down at Twerton Park?

Here are five jolly good reasons to come away to Bath City this December…

Enjoy the after match press conference in outside bar ‘Charlie’s’ where the man of the match from every Bath City game gets presented with their prize, supporters get to ask the odd question and the players often pop in for a bite to eat before leaving the club.  There’s a terrific atmosphere in the bar afterwards as supporters from every side and the local community chew over the afternoon’s action.

Twerton Park – home of Bath City – was actually named as one of the best 14 match experiences in the whole of English football by the football stadium ranking website, voted by away fans over five categories.
Visit one of the most memorable football grounds in the south west, a former home of Bristol Rovers during the 1980s, that even hosted a league-deciding fixture in May 1990 between Bristol City and Bristol Rovers.
Don’t fancy the Christmas market but fancy something more family friendly? How about ‘Christmas on ice’ in Victoria Park? Or Kingsmead Square Festive Street Food event every Friday and Saturday of the market? There’s also family focused entertainment at St Michaels Church Walcot Street, with storytelling and more, and carol singing in Bath Abbey.
There’s always Bath Thermae Spa if you need to escape for a bit of relaxation, too.
The Bath Christmas market runs from 23 November to 10 December and is well known for its many stalls, fantastic Christmas ambience, great gift ideas and festive spirit.  Fancy a mulled wine to cap the day off? There are more than 60 ‘fresh’ traders new to the 2017 market, 200 chalets to visit, 80% of which come locally from the south west, with 99% of the products being sold hand-made.
The football on display from Jerry Gill’s Bath City team is well worth a watch. The Romans are playing an exciting brand of football currently as the side keeps the ball on the deck and builds patiently through midfield.  There are no long ball merchants in this side while there have been some 20 goals scored in the last six league matches. At a ratio of more than three goals a game in that time, you’re likely to find some great entertainment on the pitch as others struggle through the hordes on the high street.
