Jarvis pilots City to narrow Concord victory
Substitute Nat Jarvis headed the only goal of a close fought encounter with Concord Rangers this afternoon to lift City back into the Vanarama National League South top ten. He struck with 17 minutes left, converting a great Jack Compton cross, just as the game was looking destined to end goalless. Both sides created a number of chances during a first half that the home side shaded, although the closest effort saw Jack Batten’s header strike the foot of the post. Concord fashioned several good sights of Luke Southwood’s goal but time and again failed to test the keeper. The second half saw City begin to look more threatening and an unmarked Batten should have put them in front from a Compton free-kick only to head over the bar. However, Jarvis did not make the same mistake on 73 minutes and City withstood some late pressure from the Beach Boys, with Darren Jones and Batten again outstanding at the heart of City’s defence.
