Early goal sends City to narrow Bitton loss
An early goal was enough to send Bath City Women to a narrow defeat against second placed Bitton AFC Ladies at Twerton Park this afternoon. Layla Soppelsa’s dipping shot gave the visitors the lead on eight minutes and, despite City dominating the game after this, that strike turned out to be the decisive goal. The closest the Romans came to denying Bitton the three points was late in the first half when they twice struck the frame of the goal. Tara Taylor saw her cross fly over keeper Hodgson but strike the inside of the post and bounce to safety. Then a couple of minutes later Erin Duffy’s 25-yard free kick beat Hodgson only to come back off the crossbar. With only runaway league leaders boasting a better defensive record than Bitton they stood firm in the second half to secure a third clean sheet again City this season and head back to Bristol with the points.
The Development side reached the semi-final of the Chairman’s Cup with a 2-1 win over Porlock Ladies. Tish Davis and Hari Sabic scoring the goals.
