Royal Wootton Bassett Town Ladies (0) 2 Bath City Women (0) 0 – Sunday 23 March 2025 – Regen Arable SW Regional WFL Div 1N – New Gerard Buxton Sports Ground
Match Report by Mark Stillman.
Second half goals from Kathryn Bach and Mia Mugford consigned Bath City Women to a first defeat in six games.
With only 12 players to call upon, it was the first time Matt Abreu’s side failed to net in 2025.
The win saw Royal Wootton Bassett Town Ladies complete a delayed league double over the Romans, with January’s meeting abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch with the hosts a goal up.
Maddy Brown came closest to scoring in a cagey first half, just after City switched personnel. Having started in defence, Tara Taylor made an immediate impact in her accustomed midfield with a driving run, before setting Brown away on the left.
She got the other side of Honor Fraser before her thunderous strike was superbly tipped over by Millie Powell.
Bassett started the second half stronger and were rewarded with a well worked opener.
Mugford and Laura Jefferies linked up well before the latter’s floated cross was expertly headed home by Bach from six yards.
Sadie Farley denied Mugford but was helpless as the attacking midfielder made the game safe on 73 minutes.
Again it was a neat passage of play which created it. Referee Calham Hill played advantage which allowed Mugford to set Hannah Gulliver away down the left, this time a low delivery was perfect for Mugford who arrived to slam home from close range.
Farley brilliantly kept out Nat Goodright’s header before Taylor’s corner nearly zoomed straight in at the other end, forcing Jefferies to clear from the line.
A consolation didn’t arrive as the depleted Romans now have a weekend off before hosting Bitton on Sunday 6 April (ko 2pm).
