City secure cup progress with Pen Mill win
City eased into the quarter finals of the Somerset Junior Cup with a 3-1 win over Pen Mill Ladies at Twerton Park this afternoon. They got off to the perfect start when Summer Hemming’s steered home Amy Key’s 4th minute corner. City largely controlled the game against the lower division visitors and they doubled their lead just before half-time. Shannon Redhouse sent Ashley Harris clear and she set up Adella Clarke to side-foot the ball home from a couple of yards out. Seven minutes into the second half Koz Thorner-Atkinson’s free-kick was diverted onto the bar by keeper Webb and Harris turned the ball into the net to make it 3-0. Within a minute the Yeovil-based side pulled a goal back from Hoyles’ long range shot. However, City continued to dominate and should have added to their lead before the game was brought to a slightly premature conclusion after Pen Mill keeper Webb suffered a back injury, though she was able to walk off the pitch after the final whistle.
The Development side went down to a narrow 2-1 defeat against Wellington Wildcats. Jasmine Rennie netted City’s goal.
