Tony Book 1934-2025
The club is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Tony Book aged 90. Bath-born Tony made 387 appearances for City, captaining them to their first ever Southern League title in 1959-60. In 1963 he followed manager Malcolm Allison, first to Canada then to Plymouth Argyle, where he made his Football League debut aged 30. Two years later he joined Manchester City, again with Allison, where he would win every domestic honour and the European Cup Winners Cup as a player. He was also named the 1969 Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year. Following his retirement in 1974 he would go on to manage the club to further success. Tony remained with the Citizens in various roles until 1997 whereupon he was named Honorary President of Manchester City and Life President of the Manchester City Official Supporters Club.
The thoughts of all connected with the Club are with Tony’s family and friends at this sad time.
