City narrowly edged out by Wootton Bassett
City Women’s 1st team suffered a narrow defeat against Royal Wootton Bassett Town at Twerton Park this afternoon. Despite captain Tara Taylor’s fourth goal of the season, strikes from Kennedy and Jefferies secured the points for the visitors.
Wootton Bassett took the lead after just six minutes when Sadie Farley initially saved well from Brooks but Kennedy lifted the loose ball into the net. City levelled a minute before half-time as Erin Duffy’s free-kick wasn’t dealt with allowing Taylor to fire home from close range. Early in the second half keeper Powell produced a stunning save to tip Maddie Brown’s shot over the bar. And Wootton Bassett won the game with 16 minutes left as Jefferies held off Eve Trivett before hooking the ball past Farley.
The Development side also lost this afternoon, going out of the League Cup against unbeaten Frome Town by four goals to three.
