City host Journey To Inclusion workshop

Sunday saw Charlie’s play proud host to England Football’s first county cluster event, delivering Disability Training for Clubs: Journey to Inclusion along side Somerset and Wiltshire County FA’s.

Created with support from Activity Alliance, the training has been created in line with the FA’s strategy of Football For All.

James Kendall, The FA’s Director of Football Development, says: “Football is our national game. It has the power to bring people together, remove social barriers and be a force for good across all communities. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Activity Alliance to support grassroots clubs in growing disability provision, providing them with a toolkit and training opportunities to help clubs to become more inclusive of disabled people, both on-and off-pitch.”

In attendance was Geoff, Paul and Emily from Bath City’s Foundation, who are leading the way in providing inclusive sessions across BANES, and are the first provider of COMETS sessions in the country. COMETS offers a safe space for disabled children, aged 5-11, to kick start their football journey.

The training offers insight into the barriers disabled people face when accessing football and how to overcome them, what support is available for grassroots clubs to become more inclusive, as well as the chance to network with other like-minded clubs.
