Women match Men with Weymouth win
Bath City Women replicated the men by collecting three points from the Bob Lucas Stadium this week. City got off to a dream start on four minutes when debutant Eve Trivett’s dangerous right wing cross was inadvertently sliced home by Weymouth’s Lauren Ellis under pressure from Amy Key. City struggled to build on this opening as the Terras upped their game and levelled on 27 minutes when Emily Screen’s first touch as a substitute was to loop a free-kick over Sadie Farley. Screen struck wide soon after before Kate Chard brilliantly kept out Libby Goatee’s long range swerver. City improved hugely after the break and won a penalty within five minutes of the restart. Mollie Harvey was caught by Annie Redding and Goater stepped up to stroke her spot-kick into the bottom left corner via the inside of the post. Tanea Wright’s stunning turn and finish after a fine move appeared to make the game safe but it was chalked off for offside. Tara Taylor’s low drive was superbly held by Chard before Weymouth blew a late chance to level when Ruby Clark cut inside but was brilliantly thwarted by Farley. It helped preserve three points as Matt Abreu’s side hit the midway point of the season with just one loss to their name.
