Next Match – Hemel Hempstead – Home

For the fifth midweek running City are in action on Tuesday evening when they welcome Hemel Hempstead Town to Twerton Park. They will be hoping to replicate their recent excellent away form in front of their own supporters knowing that if results go their way they will end the evening amongst the pack of clubs just outside the play-off positions.

Their visitors from Hertfordshire have an identical record, lying one position below in thirteenth position but with the same number of points. They are certainly enjoying a good run of form having lost only one of their last eleven matches, a surprise 3-0 defeat at Hungerford. However the goals appear to have dried up away from Vauxhall Road with only one in their last four trips. But a goalless draw at champions elect Ebbsfleet on Saturday suggests that Brad Quinton’s team will be a tough nut to crack on Tuesday.

The two teams met at Hemel on a Tuesday evening in December with the home side gaining the three points courtesy of Elliot Romain’s first half goal. Playing in front of 273 spectators, the second lowest attendance to watch City in the league this season, Jerry Gill’s team came closest to an equaliser when Elliot Frear hit the bar but it proved to be a frustrating evening for them.

Like so many of the clubs in this league Hemel have only been competing with City since the early years of this century. In all they have made ten visits to Twerton Park, plus an FA Cup tie in 2017, and have only been victorious on two occasions. The most notable of City’s five wins came six months earlier when Axel Andresson, Shawn McCoulsky, Nick McCootie and Shaquille Hunter all found the net in a 6-0 triumph. The corresponding fixture last season was played almost exactly twelve months ago when Alex Fletcher and Tom Smith scored the goals to secure a 2-1 win for their team.
