Morton and Greenslade fire City to win
Stunning long-range strikes from James Morton and Danny Greenslade fired City to victory over Eastbourne Borough this afternoon at Twerton Park. The visitors started the game brightly, debutant keeper Max Harris saving well from Walker on seven minutes, before City began to get the upper hand. Scott Wilson, Greenslade, Kieran Parselle and Luke Spokes all saw chances come and go. On 32 minutes great defending by Jack Batten prevented Borough taking the lead and three minutes later Morton curled home a superb left-foot shot from 20 yards to break the deadlock. Into the second half Gravata had an early effort blocked on the line but City continued to look the more likely scorers, Dan Hayfield forcing a good block from Worgan and Wilson seeing his shot deflected narrowly wide. Harris did well to block Luer’s attempted lob on 70 minutes as Eastbourne began to press for an equaliser, but with twelve minutes left City struck again. Greenslade collected the ball 25 yards out before unleashing an unstoppable shot past Worgan into the top corner of the net. Substitute Ollie Thomas could have capped an impressive cameo appearance with a goal when he raced clear but Worgan blocked the shot with his legs. However, the miss didn’t matter as City comfortably saw out the remainder of the time to secure a first league win since early November.
