Wilson stunner secures point for Romans
A stunning second half strike from Scott Wilson saw City secure a hard-fought point in a 1-1 draw at Hampton & Richmond Borough this evening. On the back of their late winner at Eastbourne on Saturday, City dominated the opening half an hour of the game, with Wilson, Dan Hayfield, Cody Cooke and Alex Fletcher all seeing chances come and go. Having kept City out the hosts began to pose a greater threat going forward in the latter stages of the half. And they continued to gain the upper hand after the break. With City struggling to retain possession they found themselves pinned back and this pressure finally told just past the hour mark. Gray’s weaving run ended with him going down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Although Joe Wright did brilliantly to keep out Wood’s initial kick, the ball fell kindly to Donaldson to side foot it home. City still couldn’t get a foothold back in the game but with 15 minutes left a rare break forward saw the ball find Wilson and he cut inside before curling a stunning 16-yard shot into the top corner of the net via the underside of the bar. Hampton pushed forward once again looking to regain their advantage but, despite several promising positions, couldn’t deny City a share of the points.
