Eastbourne Borough Match Preview
City will be hoping to return to winning ways, after disappointing defeats at Chelmsford and Hemel Hempstead, when they welcome Eastbourne Borough to Twerton Park on Saturday.
Their visitors from Sussex will be making their longest trip of the season and come into the game fresh from a dramatic 5-2 win over Hungerford Town.
It was Charlie Kendall whose goals finished off the Berkshire club last Saturday and he will need to be watched as his season’s total of ten goals is just one fewer than Cody Cooke’s.
However, within an hour of that match ending the mood at Priory Lane must have changed dramatically with an announcement from the Club that the whole Board had resigned.
The Sports currently lie in tenth position with 28 points from their 19 matches, Saturday’s win being the fourth in the last five.
They are the third highest scorers in the League with 19 of their 42 goals coming away from home, where their record reads four wins, one draw and four defeats.
The most eye-catching results have been 2-0 victories at both Maidstone and Oxford.
Matches at Twerton between the two clubs tend to be close with only two of the eleven matches since the first in 2004 ending in more than a single goal win.
In fact City have only suffered the one defeat in that sequence although they have managed to win only half of the remainder.
Two of those victories came in 2014 and 2016 when fine goals by Noah Keats and a beardless Jack Batten helped to secure the three points.
Due to Covid, Eastbourne have not visited since September 2019 when a Community Day crowd of 1444 enjoyed a thrilling finish to a 2-2 draw.
There was an excellent attendance for the last home fixture against Chippenham and with the average for league matches now over 1200 it is hoped that a similar large crowd will enjoy another home win.
As always tickets for the match can be bought online from the Club’s website.
