Meet the Players – Ben Gerring
Central defender and new club captain, Ben Gerring, spoke to us back at the start of the 2021-22 campaign following his arrival from Woking.
How have you settled into life at Bath City so far?
“Yeah, all settled now, the majority of the squad have been together from the get-go which is nice.”
It must have been with a heavy heart to leave a club like Woking where you experienced some good times, what made you choose Bath City as your new destination?
“Yeah, I was obviously gutted to have to leave Woking. I had some great times there and connected with a lot of people around the club. The gaffer here gave me that same community-based feeling; it’s important the players and supporters are connected and I got that feeling after talking to him.”
What can Bath City fans expect from Ben Gerring this season?
“First and foremost, I would hope the supporters will see me as an ambassador for their football club, someone who represents them in the right way. What I lack in quality I make up for with aggression, leadership and effort. I will give my best every week and that’s all I can ask of myself.”
With the squad Jerry had built, what are your aspirations for the new season?
“I came here to challenge for promotion, I’ve not been shy of saying that. I think the squad we have now are capable of achieving that goal. I’m happy with the gaffer’s recruitment so far.”
The NLS looks to be a very strong league again this year, what clubs do you expect to be up there challenging?
“It’s getting stronger, isn’t it? A lot of clubs have recruited from the league above this season in the hope to get
out of the league. I think Dorking, Havant and Dartford in particular will be strong favourites.”
Finally, what message would you give the fans from yourself as the season gets into gear?
“My message would be, stay positive right the way through. Be the 12th man and enjoy watching these boys do your club proud.”
