Late drama sees City suffer Slough defeat
City came out on the wrong end of a late flurry of goals at Slough Town this afternoon, all three goals coming in the final six minutes of the 2-1 victory for the home side. The previous 84 minutes had largely been controlled by the Rebels, particularly during the first half where City struggled to retain possession. However, when they did create openings they rarely troubled Ryan Clarke. City’s only real sight of goal during the opening 45 minutes saw Donovan Wilson’s low shot comfortably saved by Turner. The opening exchanges of the second period followed a similar pattern but slowly City began to pose more of an attacking threat, Lucas Tomlinson forcing a great stop from Turner just before the hour mark. On 68 minutes City had a close call when Lomas’ shot hit the post then with eight minutes left Lench missed a great chance from close range. Two minutes later Slough finally broke the deadlock, McGlip firing across Clarke into the net. City were back on level terms within another two minutes though, Wilson’s finishing neatly after some great build up play by the Romans. He had a great chance to win the game for City in the final minute when a ball over the top sent him clear but Turner blocked his shot. And two minutes into stoppage time Slough bagged the three points from Worsfold’s 20-yard free-kick that flew past Clarke’s despairing dive.
