City can’t play to the crowd as Yeovil run out comfortable pre-season winners
City suffered their first pre-season defeat, losing 3-0 to National League side Yeovil Town at Huish Park this evening. Despite the announcement earlier in the day that the phased return of fans to games was being halted, the match was played in front of around 600 home supporters and they witnessed their side run out comfortable winners. After an even opening 25 minutes, the hosts began to get on top and on 36 minutes the ball broke to Staunton 12 yards out and his shot had just enough power to beat Will Henry. Three minutes into the second half the Glovers doubled their lead through Wilkinson’s well-struck effort from the edge of the box. City’s attacking efforts were having little impact on the well-organised Yeovil rearguard, apart from a cross-shot by a Romans trialist that saw Tom Smith hit the post from close-range, although he was flagged offside. And Yeovil extended their lead in the 67th minute with the pick of the evenings goals, a great 25 yard shot from Skendi. City did create a couple of chances to grab a consolation goal after that and the game ended on a positive note with the return to action of Jack Batten ten minutes from time, after 14 months on the sidelines with a serious knee injury.
