Weston Super Mare (0) 0 Bath City (0) 0 – Saturday 5 September 2020 – Pre-Season Friendly – Woodspring Stadium
(Report taken from Weston Super Mare website)
Bath had the first chance of the afternoon when Nick McCootie headed a corner away but straight back to the taker. The second cross into the middle found Dan Ball at the back post, but he steered his volley inches wide. Jacob Jagger-Cane had a shot go just wide from inside the area as he worked a yard of space when controlling McCootie’s flick, before Scott Laird had a long-range drive pushed away by Will Henry.
Dayle Grubb had his first shot of the afternoon but could only curl into the arms of Will Henry from 25 yards, before his next chance came from 20 yards out. He fired just over the crossbar before Ben Griffith forced Henry into making a save low down to his right from 18 yards.
After the interval, Ryan Jones had an effort from 25 yards held low down by Henry before an inswinging free-kick from the left-back was tipped just round the post by Henry as Keiran Thomas closed in at the back post.
Bath came close again when a ball through found Tom Smith, and his effort squirmed under Luke Purnell towards the goal. Avery and Thomas did just enough to avert the danger away from their goal as Bath players attempted to scramble the ball over the line.
With time running out, Thomas had a shot blocked following a Grubb run down the left wing, and substitute Lewis Hall’s powerful effort on the half-volley was blocked by a Bath player in the final chance of the game.
